Today I had a great novel idea...again. I love that my mind is able to come up with great ideas for books, but I also get upset with myself because I have several starts to novels and only one finished one.
With each new idea I get I think its the best one ever, start writing it and then get distracted by something or give up on the idea once its not as shiny anymore.
One other thing I've noticed, is that when I tell someone else about my bad ass idea, saying it out loud it always sounds stupid.
Such negative thoughts huh!! Well, let me also say this..
When I go to pick a book to read sometimes I start several before I get to "the one." I think you have to feel out for the right book for you at the time. Perhaps the same is true with writing novels. Just because you have a great idea doesn't mean this is the time for you to be writing it. Write the idea down in a notebook and look through it every so often, at some point an idea will pop out and be "the one."
Also, I read a lot of fantasy and science fiction, and sometimes just plain normal fiction. If you told someone the general idea of Ender's Game or The Hobbit they would sound kinda silly out loud. "Oh this books about a little boy who is really smart and goes to school up in the sky, becomes a general and leads an army via a video game." (This book is amazing by the way, read it if you haven't! (Talking about Ender's Game))
Just felt like sharing these thoughts. It's easy to get caught up in the negative but I like to think there's a positive side to just about everything.
